A new dune-dwelling lizard of the genus Leiocephalus (Iguania, Leiocephalidae) from the Dominican Republic.
We describe a new species of Leiocephalus from the coastal dunes of Bahía de las Calderas in the southwestern Dominican Republic. In external morphology, Leiocephalus sixtoi sp. nov. is most similar to L. schreibersii and L. inaguae. Leiocephalus sixtoi differs from L. inaguae in having a U-shaped bony parietal table (vs. V-shaped in L. inaguae), 3 or 4 enlarged postcloacal scales in males (vs....
متن کاملThe Oldest Genus of Scincid Lizard (Squamata) from the Tertiary Etadunna Formation of South Australia
-Recent expeditions to the Lake Palankarinna rea of South Australia resulted in the oldest and only known extinct skink genus in Australia. The holotype of a new genus and species, Proegernia palankarinnensis, was collected from the basal portion of the Late Oligocene Etadunna Formation from the Minkina Local Fauna. Additional scincid fossils previously recovered from higher levels in the forma...
متن کاملComparing alignment methods for inferring the history of the new world lizard genus Mabuya (Squamata: Scincidae).
The rapid increase in the ability to generate molecular data, and the focus on model-based methods for tree reconstruction have greatly advanced the use of phylogenetics in many fields. The recent flurry of new analytical techniques has focused almost solely on tree reconstruction, whereas alignment issues have received far less attention. In this paper, we use a diverse sampling of gene region...
متن کاملPhylogenetic Relationships of the Large-Bodied Members of the African Lizard Genus Pachydactylus (Reptilia: Gekkonidae)
Evolutionary relationships among large-bodied species in the gekkonid genus Pachydactylus were investigated using mtDNA sequences from the cytochrome b and 16S ribosomal RNA genes. We combined these data in parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses to address several systematic issues regarding the eight largebodied taxa, including their phylogenetic position in Pachydactylus as a whole. The la...
